A reckless police driver in Asaba Ibusa Ogwashi Uku expressway in Oshimili area of delta state,killed two people in attempt to stop a commercial bus.
A police driver has killed two people in Delta state while chasing an overloaded commercial bus on Thursday afternoon 6th October..
It was gathered that the driver of the commercial bus died on the spot alongside a male suspect whom the police were taking to Asaba state command.Also a female suspect lost consciousness and rushed to hospital due to the incident..
According to an eye witness Mr Uche said, the police van which was inscribed with anti crime patrol, Kkwale division was coming from Ogwashi Uku area at about 2pm when the incident occurred..
Uche also said that, upon sighing the the commercial bus which was overloaded,the police van started chasing it,the bus was heading towards the Ughelli area when the police with three police men and two suspect on board the van crashed into it for a force stop..
A relative to the deceased said, "
The accident was a flagrant abuse of power by those who are supposed to enforce the law.The police veered off their lane to stop a bus on motion from a slope, which resulted in the bus exploding"
"The incident must be thoroughly investigated.The three police men must be fished out to pay for their crime.They killed my brother for no just cause.They watched my brother burn without doing anything".
One of the passenger named Chinedu Ojimadu including the bus driver was burnt to death in the presence of the sympathizers and police officers as a result of the incident, while one passenger survived.
Celestina Kalu, the spokesperson of delta state police command also confirmed the incident but couldn't tell if there was casualty.
